Lyrics:
The king is down in his kingdom
But power nowhere to find
He’s got his soldiers and empire
But no-one’s really around
The wandering boy chased his freedom
Said life has not enough time
He hasn’t found what he went for
And there is no-one around
And he won’t really know where he’s going
He left with nothing but some time to get away from his circle of thoughts
Said: “you can buy expensive watches
And you can buy expensive clocks
But they won’t be ticking slower,
Ticking any slower than ours”
Now finally I’m free from the light
And through the mist
It’s burning my eyes
It hurt me then, but it kills me right now
Oh, what if this just shouldn’t feel right?
Because I don’t know why you’re so afraid of it
No, I don’t know why you’re so afraid of it
But the king spends days
Watching time and faces
that he will once be old and lonely
the king spends days
Watching time and faces
that he will once be old and by himself
The king has nothing to fear now
But he just knows he once will
It’s not the way that it used to be
His thoughts and mind are so still
The boy’s got nothing but worries
And has for thinking no time
Still, it’s all that he does these days
So far away from a crown
And no, we don’t know where we’re going
We don’t know why we say that it should be the way that it’s now
‘Cause you can buy expensive watches
And you can buy expensive clocks
But they won’t be ticking slower,
Ticking any slower than ours
Now finally I’m free from the light
And through the mist
It’s burning my eyes
It hurt me then, but it kills me right now
Oh, what if this just shouldn’t feel right?
Because I don’t know why you’re so afraid of it
No, I don’t know why you’re so upset about it
Oh, what if this just shouldn’t feel right?
But the king spends days
Watching time and faces that he will once be old and lonely
the king spends days
Watching time and faces that he will once be old and by himself
11-11-2017: We're very excited to present you our latest song 'The King'. When I was about 17 years old, I was busy trying to make choices for my future. I realized I wanted to pursue a career in music, but was also quite anxious because of all the comments by people around me about the fact that it's difficult to make money in the music industry. This song is basically a story of finding happiness while realizing that money won't be a key to finding that happiness. The lyric "you can buy expensive watches and you can buy expensive clocks, but they won't be ticking slower, ticking any slower than ours" still sticks with me despite the song being written 5 years before I'm writing this post. Combining these lyrics with the overall melody and beat that both feel quite powerful, we're very glad to release 'The King' as the second Axley song. Teun
